Gain the skills and practical experience required to safely and efficiently operate an excavator in civil construction and infrastructure environments. This nationally recognised unit equips participants with the knowledge and competency to lift, carry, place, excavate, load, and move materials while operating excavators in accordance with workplace procedures and industry best practices.
Ideal for those working in civil construction, earthmoving, road construction, utilities, and infrastructure projects, this unit provides the practical skills and confidence needed to operate excavators safely, effectively, and productively in real-world environments.
To enrol in this course, you must meet the following requirements:
Online plus 1-day practical Face-to-face operating real excavator machine at our training facility in Ellenbrook.
Result is Competent (C) or Not Yet Competent (NYC). Three reassessment attempts included at no extra cost.
Throughout the course, learners will develop the ability to conduct pre-start inspections, operate excavators across a variety of site conditions, perform excavation and earthmoving activities, and safely use a range of excavator attachments. Training covers essential operational tasks including trenching, bulk excavation, loading, stockpiling, backfilling, battering, benching, lifting operations, and site clean-up activities.

While this unit includes preparing equipment for relocation and assisting with loading and unloading activities, it does not provide the competency to independently load and unload plant. Individuals undertaking those tasks must hold, or be working under the supervision of someone who holds, the relevant loading and unloading competency.
This qualification may lead to the following career opportunities. Please note: completion of training does not guarantee employment.
