Recognising What You Already Know
Full Tilt Training Solutions is committed to recognising the skills, knowledge, qualifications and competencies that learners have previously achieved. You should not have to repeat training you have already completed or demonstrate skills you have already proven.
There are two pathways available:
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
For skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience, informal learning or previous training that was not formally certified.
Credit Transfer
For nationally recognised qualifications or units of competency you have already completed with another Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
Information about both pathways will be provided to you before enrolment and throughout your training. You may apply at any time during your enrolment.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is an assessment process that recognises what you already know and can do against the requirements of a unit of competency. It is available for all units delivered by Full Tilt Training Solutions.
Full Tilt Training Solutions recognises that learning may occur through:
- Formal learning and previous study
- Non-formal learning and professional development
- Workplace and industry experience
- Informal learning and life experience
- Volunteer and community work
How to Apply for RPL
- Contact administration to request an RPL kit and information pack
- Initial consultation – an assessor will discuss the RPL process with you, including evidence requirements, assessment methods, fees and likelihood of success
- Collect your evidence – gather supporting documentation relevant to the unit you are applying for
- Submit your application – return the completed RPL Application Form with all supporting evidence
- Assessment – your application will be assessed within 14 days of receipt
- Outcome – you will be advised of the outcome within 21 days of receipt of your completed application
What Evidence Can I Submit?
Evidence may include a combination of the following:
| Evidence Type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Direct Evidence | Workplace observation, practical demonstrations, challenge tests, oral questioning |
| Indirect Evidence | Work samples, logbooks, training records, qualifications, Statements of Attainment, reports, projects |
| Supplementary Evidence | Employer references, supervisor reports, third-party reports, testimonials, performance reviews |
All evidence submitted must meet the Rules of Evidence – it must be valid, sufficient, authentic and current. Assessment decisions are made in accordance with the Principles of Assessment – fairness, flexibility, validity and reliability.
RPL Outcomes
Following assessment, one of the following outcomes will be provided to you in writing:
- Competent Through RPL – you have demonstrated all required competency requirements and the unit will be awarded
- Partial RPL – you have demonstrated some requirements and gap training or assessment may be required for the remaining elements
- RPL Not Granted – insufficient evidence was provided to demonstrate competency. Training and assessment pathway options will be discussed with you
RPL Fees
Fees for RPL assessments vary depending on the qualification, number of units and evidence review requirements. A written quotation will be provided before the RPL process commences. Refer to our Fees and Charges Schedule for details.
Credit Transfer
Credit Transfer is the process of recognising nationally recognised training previously completed with another Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or AQF-authorised issuing organisation.
Credit Transfer will be granted where the unit of competency matches exactly or has been deemed equivalent according to training package transition information.
Credit Transfer assessment is provided at no charge.
Am I Eligible?
You may apply for Credit Transfer where you hold:
- AQF certification documentation issued by an Australian RTO or AQF-authorised issuing organisation, or
- An authenticated USI Transcript
How to Apply for Credit Transfer
- Complete a Credit Transfer Application Form – contact administration to obtain the form
- Provide evidence by submitting one of the following:
- Original certification for sighting, or
- Certified copies of your certification, or
- An authenticated USI Transcript
- Verification – Full Tilt Training Solutions will verify the authenticity of your documentation by reviewing USI transcripts and contacting the issuing organisation where required
- Outcome – you will be advised in writing of the outcome. Where Credit Transfer is granted you will not be required to undertake training or assessment for the approved unit
National Recognition
Full Tilt Training Solutions recognises AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by all Australian Registered Training Organisations. As an RTO we are required to apply Credit Transfer for units and qualifications that are equivalent, in accordance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations.
Reasonable Adjustment During RPL
Full Tilt Training Solutions may provide reasonable adjustment during the RPL process where appropriate to support your participation. Any reasonable adjustment must not compromise the integrity of the assessment, the requirements of the unit of competency, or any applicable licensing or workplace health and safety requirements.
Disagreeing With a Decision
If you are dissatisfied with an RPL or Credit Transfer decision, you have the right to appeal. Appeals are handled in accordance with our Complaints and Appeals Policy and Procedure and are available at no cost.
